Course Description:
This presentation explores Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) — the non-medical factors that influence health outcomes. These factors include where people are born, grow, live, work, and age, and they significantly impact a person’s overall health and well-being.
Course Objectives:
- Defining SDOH: Understanding what social determinants of health are and why they matter.
- How do SDOH impact physical and mental health.
- Emphasize the role of healthcare organizations, policymakers, and community partners in addressing SDOH
Presenter Bio:
Alicia Tieder, MSW, LICSW, MBA
Vice President, Organizational Learning, Patient & Family Experience, and Health Outcomes
Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Began my career as a Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and transitioned to Seattle Children’s Hospital in 2015. I currently serve as the Vice President of Organizational Learning, Patient & Family Experience, and Health Outcomes. Through my experience working with patients, I focus on improving systems to reduce barriers to high-quality care and to support a positive and meaningful work experience for staff. In 2019, I became the Director of the Center for Health Outcomes and have since led efforts to drive measurable improvements in patient outcomes, care quality, and workforce engagement.
I lead multiple teams, including the Center for Health Outcomes; Workforce Community & Connection; Organizational Learning; Patient and Family Education, Patient Family Experience, and the hospital’s Administrative Fellowship Program. The teams I support are responsible for generating insights, developing strategies, and implementing solutions to advance Seattle Children’s vision of delivering exceptional patient and family experiences, improving health outcomes, and fostering an engaged and supported workforce. I strive to emphasize driving system-level change through quality improvement, operational excellence, and collaborative leadership to ensure every patient receives the best possible care.
