Water is Wonderful

Here’s how to drink more of it.

When you drink more water, you get big benefits. Glowing skin, a healthier body, and stronger teeth. To fit more water into your day, get creative. Here are a few tips to get in more sips:

  1. Set a “drink by” goal. At the start of your day, fill up a bottle of water. Decide to drink a certain amount by a certain time. For example, you could try to drink half of the bottle by lunch and the other half by dinner, or half at work and half when you’re back home.
  2. Pair with daily habits. Decide that you’ll drink water every time you do one of your daily habits. For example, have a glass of water right after you get dressed.
  3. Turn up the taste. Make your water taste more like a treat by adding your favorite fruit flavors. Focus on making this easy to do—no need to add a bunch of chopping and dicing to your day. Pick fruits you can easily drop in (like berries) or squeeze in (like lemon or lime) to add flavor without adding prep time.
  4. Set up a sip competition. Challenge your family or friends to see who can drink the most water each day. (FYI, men need about 16 cups of fluid a day, and women need around 12. That includes fluids from water, drinks, and food).
  5. Grab a glass of water first. When you’re thirsty, try drinking a glass of water before you drink anything else. This will likely quench your thirst. Even if you do drink something else after, you’ll need a little less of it.
  6. Replace one sugary drink a day with water. If you drink things like juice and energy drinks, try replacing one a day with water.
  7. Drink water with every meal. If you make this a habit, you’ll be sure to fit in a few more glasses of water each day.

The key to fitting more water into your day is fitting it into your life. Try out small steps that are realistic for you. Before you know it, all of those small steps will add up to big benefits.
