  • Certified Peer Counselor Training October 3-7 (9am-5pm) at Passages Family Supports

    Testing dates the 11th and 12th. Testing is done virtually.

    1. ASAP get application into HCA & complete their online pre-reqs (9 online modules). Everyone has to work through this process with HCA before they take the Certified Peer Counselor (CPC) training. Application: https://fortress.wa.gov/hca/peercounseling/

    2. At the same time contact Sarah Bollig Dorn (sarah@betterhealthtogether.org) and indicate they want in the October class. When Passages checks the HCA approved list, those candidates will be listed and we can prioritize them.

  • Ana Trusty shared that earlier this week she had a media request and learned about STARS programs 

  • KJ January at Spectrum shared that their gender affirming products program is up and running again. Spectrum’s Gender Affirming Products Program – 

  • Amy McColm shared that Lutheran is hosting an event to help refugees and recent immigrants navigate the health care system. Let them know if you plan to attend so that they can have appropriate interpreters.

  • John Edmondson from Growing Neighbors said they’re hosting booths at farmers markets to help connect people to their services and connect people to fresh produce. They’re also starting gardens around town and would love to team up with your staff and/or clients on farmers’ markets, community gardening, communal meals, food deliveries, Little Free Pantries, neighbor gatherings, cooking workshops, community composting, etc.

  • Drew Comito at Excelsior said they’ve located one of their wraparound teams (clinician, peer support, and care coordinator) at Northeast Youth & Family Services.

  • Christie Pelz with Partners with Families & Children shared they’re having a grand open house in September!

  • Linda Lauch shared that the American Indian Community Center is expanding their Good Heart Behavioral Health Program to include mental health and co-occurring disorders.

  • Julie Hinkemeyer shared Peer Spokane now has a navigator who can assist individuals with signing up for state insurance.  

  • DOH Health Equity Zones Community Workgroup

    • The Health Equity Zones Initiative supports community-driven efforts to advance the health and well-being of communities in Washington most impacted by inequities.

    • The purpose of the HEZ Community Workgroup is to shape how the HEZ Initiative is implemented and ensure lived experiences and community expertise are centered in the process.

    • The HEZ Community Workgroup has open membership and meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday from 1 – 3 pm, so you are welcome to join as it works for you. Financial incentives will also be provided to participants.

    • The goals for this meeting are to build relationships with Community Workgroup members, establish an understanding of the HEZ Initiative, and provide feedback on the HEZ workplan.

  • The Spokane Tribe Health and Human Services (HHS) Department is excited to announce their 2022 Health, Wellness, and Career Fair scheduled Thursday, July 28, 2022. 

     

    To attend as an attendee, no registration required and this event is free for all ages. Lunch provided. And there will be many resources available focusing on personal and community health and wellness, and resources for local employment. There will also be opportunities to win some fabulous door prizes.

Planned Parenthood has a GYT (get yourself tested) program going on right now. No-cost STI testing for new patients at all our health centers. Now through June.

Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) integrated behavioral health Bachelor’s of Applied Science was approved by Washington State Board of Education. The program will being Fall 2023.
