Cavity Free Kids

Early Learning Providers

Cavity Free Kids is oral health education for young children and their families. It’s designed for use in Head Start and Early Head Start, childcare, preschool, home visiting, and other programs and for families to use at home.

Cavity Free Kids includes a rich collection of lessons, activities, stories, songs and other resources that actively engage young children in fun-filled, play-based learning and help parents practice good oral health habits at home.

Course Information
Participants will learn what causes cavities and how they can be prevented. At the end of the course, participants will understand how to use Cavity Free Kids with kids and families. You will also learn how to connect children with local dental care.

The course is offered in two formats:

  1. Stored online through the State of Washington Department of Early Learning.
  2. In-person or live online through Arcora Foundation (with the instructor in a different location than attendees and technology is used to enable real-time interaction).

Oral Health Basics

Helping clients enjoy good oral health can be challenging. Physical and cognitive diseases or disabilities can make it hard for some clients to perform their own oral care and sometimes they may not want the help of family members or other caregivers.

Course Topics Include:

• Strategies to make providing oral care easier – for you and your clients
• How oral health affects overall health
• How aging affects oral health
• Basic facts about oral health and ways to assist clients with routine daily oral care
• What a healthy mouth and unhealthy mouth look like
• How to identify and report unusual conditions in and around the mouth to help clients prevent oral disease or intervene early before a dental problem becomes more serious

Target Audience: This course is designed for licensed home care aides and other types of caregivers to increase the quality of oral health care delivered to clients or loved ones.

Continuing Education: This course is approved for one credit hour by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services.
